The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

We recently sat down with stylist extraordinaire Rachel Zoe at an event for her new partnership with Downy, and when you have 5 minutes to talk clothes with Rachel Zoe, you better believe Karl Lagerfeld comes up! The stylist also dished on how she keeps the items in her (enviable) closet in good condition–like did you know that the trick to leather jackets is wearing them more? Bananas! See her all her answers to our burning questions here:

SHEfinds: Tell us about your partnership with Downy.

Rachel Zoe: I’m partnering with Downy and Tide because I want to learn more about the best ways to care for various types of fabrics, including ones that I use in my collections. A lot of people are confused on how to care for their high/low fashion, so I’m actually going to their facilities in Cincinnati this fall to better understand the best possible regimens for caring for both, transforming your less expensive pieces to make them feel more luxe and keeping your designer pieces looking great too.

SF: What piece of clothing have you owned the longest time? And how do you keep in good condition?

RZ: I don’t really part from my favorite things! One of my first designer pieces was a Karl Lagerfeld simple black dress. I keep it in good condition in a garment bag that’s breathable on a velvet hanger. I keep it in a special closet.

SF: What’s the first thing you buy for fall? And how to you make it last until winter?

RZ: It’s always a new jacket! Sometimes a leather jacket or great shearling bomber jacket. To keep it lasting until winter, I just preserve it. Honestly, the more you wear it the better–so it’s not so stiff. Sometimes wear is a good thing.

SF: I have a toddler–any tips for keeping your clothes looking like new when you have children? (This is such a challenge for me with all the spills!)

RZ: As someone who got avocado mashed into my Louis Vuitton pleated jacket when Skyler was a year old, I would say stick to dark colors, stick to washable, wipe-able clothing. I carry baby wipes with me wherever I go.

Don’t wear anything precious when you know you’ll be with your kids all day. Avoid anything too intricate. I also don’t like to wear anything with hardware on it.
