The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

If there’s one beauty truth we’ve learned, it’s that Korean beauty never disappoints. By constantly searching for new and inventive ways to incorporate ingredients found in nature, K-beauty is always one step ahead of the curve–think sheet masks, splash masks, aqua peeling, and, yep, the majestic product that put Korean beauty on the map: our beloved BB creams.

If ever there was a reason to stop thinking of K-beauty as a trend, here it is: great brands like Soko Glam!, Peach and Lily, and Glow Recipe aren’t resting on their laurels–they’re continuing to innovate by offering products made with ingredients you’ve either never heard of or would never think to put on your face. Sarah Lee and Christine Chang from Glow Recipe describe three new Korean beauty ingredients that everyone will be talking about this year.

1. Tremella mushroom. As far as fungi go, the Tremella mushroom, which looks like a white sea anemone, is quite the looker. It’s also ultra-hydrating and contains health benefits. Found growing in tropical areas such as South America and the Caribbean, the fungus is popular in Chinese medicine and cuisine and can even be used to make a bitter pear tonic for coughs. It is believed that when consumed regularly, the Tremella mushroom not only replenishes body liquid and cures dry coughs, but, in part because it can hold up to 500 times its weight in water, it is also being used in skin care products to help slow down signs of aging such as wrinkles, freckles, and stress marks.

To get a feel for what the Tremella mushroom can do for your skin, try Earth’s Recipe Energy Boosting Tonic and Earth’s Recipe Moisture Bound Cream, both of which contain Tremella mushroom extract.

2. Natto Gum.  Japanese people are already familiar with natto gum–many eat it, along with rice, for breakfast. Natto is made from boiled soybeans that are then fermented with a culture of bacillus subtilis natto, according to Lee and Chang.

After a 24-hour fermentation period, the soybeans develop their characteristic gooey-ness and distinct fermented aroma. When consumed, natto is said to prevent strokes and heart attacks, increase bone density, promote weight loss, aid digestion, and decrease risks of cancer.

But what can it do for your skin? Plenty. With lecithin, vitamins K2 and E, and an amino acid called PGA, it can help boost your skin’s hydration in incredible ways, while brightening skin and lightly exfoliating.

Experience the benefits of natto gum on your skin with a product like Whamisa Organic Flowers Water Cream.

3. Ginseng. If you’re a fan of eastern cuisine, you’re already familiar with ginseng, which cools the palate and aids in digestion. It was only a matter of time before it became known as a trending beauty ingredient capable of magical feats like improving the brightness of the eye area, decreasing the appearance of dark under-eye circles, and helping to eliminate free radicals that can cause premature aging.

Two ginseng-infused products to try? Soyedodam Organic Ginseng Mist and, as a luxe treat, Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream.

Be sure to check out how to apply lipstick so that it stays all day long and do wrinkle creams really work.
