3 Pre-Installed Apps You Should Delete From Your iPhone Because They’re Eating Up Storage

When you receive your new iPhone, you may begin to download app after app in excitement, eager to try out the apps that seem interesting and convenient. You may also quickly discover how much storage space these apps can eat up, and how you may be forced over time to either delete some of these apps or find ways to free up more storage space (like deleting videos and large files). When all else fails, you can purchase more storage space, though spending even more money after an expensive smartphone purchase is probably not at the top of your list of priorities.

Pre-installed apps don’t take up a ton of storage space. The truth is: if you check your settings at the apps that are eating away at storage, social media apps like Facebook and streaming apps like Netflix will likely be at the top of the list, with pre-installed apps somewhere near the bottom. But if your goal is to clean house on your phone and only stick with apps you actually use, there are a few pre-installed apps you can delete to conserve storage space (because every little bit helps, doesn’t it?). Here are three pre-installed apps to consider deleting.

Three Pre-Installed Apps You Can Delete

Three pre-installed apps that you can delete without missing them (we’re guessing) include Compass, News, and Fitness.

When was the last time you consulted with the compass on your phone to figure out if you’re walking north, south, east, or west? The answer is: probably never. Considering how well your Apple maps app can direct you from Point A to Point B, there’s really little need to have the Compass app on your phone. Sure, it’s a cool feature — but a necessary one? Not likely. Feel free to delete it and gain back a sliver of storage space.

The News app is probably more helpful. This app may curate the news headlines that you’re most interested in seeing, along with links to articles you’d like to read. But if you’re devoted to learning the latest about politics, for example, you likely already have several news apps and websites that you frequent daily to get important information. If you don’t find the News app adds anything valuable to your life, you can delete it.

Among the many sophisticated fitness and health apps out there, the pre-installed Fitness app on your iPhone does NOT rank so highly. If you’ve been using it and rely on it for notifications to remind you to get moving, for example, great — keep doing what works for you. But if you’ve hardly ever glanced in its direction and you have your fitness and health routine exactly where it needs to be, without the help of this pre-installed app, delete it.

When every last bit of storage space on your phone is important, the more of it you can conserve, the better. Deleting some of these pre-installed apps can help.
