Why is your iPhone SO slow yet again? This may be the question that plagues you day in, and day out. But instead of doing something about it, you may assume this is just how your iPhone is going to have to be until you buy a new model.

But that’s far from the truth. In fact, there could be simple reasons why your device is sluggish, and simple solutions to get it to run faster. Here are five reasons your iPhone is running slow and how to fix them.

Low Power Mode Is On

This one will have you kicking yourself: make sure you don’t have Low Power Mode on. Many of us have become accustomed to taking advantage of this setting to help prolong the life of our battery when its charge is dwindling down so that we can extend the time needed before having to charge our devices again. While Low Power Mode can help, it also turns off some features and will make some of the tasks you want to complete take longer.

Check if your phone is set to Low Power Mode by heading to Settings >Battery.

Your Phone Is Exposed To Extreme Temperatures

Extreme heat and extreme cold are no good for your iPhone battery. If you’ve left your phone in a hot car (or super-cold car), don’t be shocked if it runs a bit slower than usual. The solution is to place your phone on a room temperature surface and keep it there until its temperature adjusts back down to normal.

An App Isn’t Responding

Sometimes an app on your phone stops responding, and this can freeze up your device. When this happens, you’ll need to force it to close and then open it again. If you have an Phone 8 or earlier, double-click the Home button to show your most recently used apps (for iPhone X or later, swipe up from the bottom of the home screen). Swipe right or left to find the app that’s frozen and that you want to close. Swipe on the app’s preview and close the app.

Your Phone Lacks Storage

When your iPhone begins to run low on storage space, one way you’ll know is that your device can become sluggish. Check how much storage you have by going to Settings > General > [Device] Storage. Apple recommends maintaining at least 1GB of storage space. You can purchase more space or begin deleting files you don’t need, like media, videos, and photos, to free up space.

Make Sure Your Battery Is Healthy

It’s not as common as the other reasons on this list, but it’s possible your battery itself may need to be replaced. To check your battery’s health, head to Settings > Battery and tap Battery Health. If you are in need of a new battery, iPhone will make this recommendation.

Your shouldn’t have to live with a super-slow (yet still super-expensive) iPhone. Make sure one of these five reasons isn’t responsible for your slower-than-usual phone.
