Experts Say Your iPhone Has A 'Major' Security Problem—Here Are 5 Tips To Keep You Safe

There are so many pros to owning an iPhone that it can be challenging at times to remember the potential risks. Fans of Apple products wax poetic about Apple’s security platforms and how intuitive the software is when compared with some of its competitors. Others wouldn’t trade the sleek design of an iPhone for any other. But there are some major caveats you need to be aware of when it comes to the iPhone, and they have everything to do with how much data you have stored on your device that you wouldn’t want falling into the wrong hands.

Peter Michaels, the CEO of Yeespy, a parental monitoring solution, points out five tips that can help solve some of the biggest iPhone security problems. Follow all of these guidelines to help prevent a data and security breach.

Create Strong Passcodes Or Use Face ID

One of the things we love most about our iPhones is the security options they provide. But these options are only as good as your willingness to make good use of them.

“One major security problem iPhone [users] may encounter is the threat of unauthorized access to their device,” Michaels says. “To address this issue, one pivotal tip is to enable a strong passcode or, indeed more, use the Face ID or Touch ID point.”

These biometric authentication styles give an extra level of protection to ensure no one else can access your device.

Keep Your System Current

Updating your phone’s software and apps can force you to take time out of your day, we know. But they’re not merely suggestions — they are important steps to keeping your phone’s security up to speed.

“Another important measure is to keep your iPhone’s operating system and apps current,” Michaels says. “Apple regularly releases security patches and updates to address vulnerabilities and enhance device security. Installing these updates instantly ensures your iPhone is equipped with the rearmost security features and defenses against implicit pitfalls.”

Don’t Just Download Everything You See

Are you about to download the tenth photo editing app you’ve seen that looks mildly interesting? Before you do, take note that  it's pivotal to be conservative when downloading and installing apps if you’re trying to keep your phone more secure, according to Michaels.

“Stick to trusted sources like the Apple App Store to minimize the threat of downloading offensive or compromised operations,” he says. “Apple's strict app review process helps ensure that the apps in the App Store meet security norms.”

Set An Unbreakable Password For Apple ID

It can feel like there are so many passcodes to think up and remember, but setting a strong and unique word for your Apple ID is another essential step in securing your data.

“Avoid using familiar or fluently guessable watchwords, and consider enabling two-factor authentication for an added subcaste of security,” Michaels says. “This way, if someone manages to gain your word, they would still need an alternate verification step to pierce your account.”

Back Up Your Data

Last, but not least, it is so important to take a little time out every few weeks and back up the data on your phone. Because, as cautious as you try to be, there’s no absolute guarantee that your data will always be 100 percent safe.

“By periodically creating backups through iCloud or iTunes, you can cover your data from implicit loss due to device theft, damage, or software malfunctions,” Michaels says. “Backups ensure your critical information remains safe and can be fluently restored to a new device if demanded.”

Being more proactive when it comes to your phone’s passcodes and the apps you download will help you keep your data better protected.
