There’s no doubt your mom will play an important role in planning your wedding. That time can be a great bonding experience for the both of you--but there will also be times when your mother is going to drive you crazy. While there are some items you can concede to (does it really matter if you serve tilapia instead of salmon?), there are others that should really be up to you and your groom. Here are six times the bride is always right--and mom will have to just deal with it.

The Dress

It’s a moment most brides fantasize about their entire lives--finding the perfect wedding dress. Chances are good that your mom will be with you when you’re shopping for gowns, and in a perfect world, she’ll love the dress you choose just as much you do. But what do you do if she doesn’t? If you really feel in your heart this is the perfect one for you, get it anyway. After all, you’ll be the one wearing it—and how you look on the most important day of your life is entirely up to you.

The First look

When your mom got married, it was a huge no-no for the groom to see the bride before the ceremony. But now, many couples are opting for a first look so they can have some private time before the vows and also get some photos out of the way. So even if your mom objects, do what is right for you.

The Wedding Ceremony

Many parents get very involved when it comes to the ceremony, especially if they’re religious. But your vows are such a personal moment for you and your fiancé, you don’t want to incorporate anything into the ceremony that makes either one of you uncomfortable.

The Bridal Party

Sorry mom, but you don’t need to have all 11 of your first female cousins in the bridal party (unless that's what you want).

The Guest List

You want a small, intimate wedding, but your mom wants to invite the entire extended family, all of her friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. You and your groom have a vision for your wedding day, so if you want something simple, then stick to your guns.

DJ

Your mom and dad likely had a live band at their wedding—and for them that is the only type of music to play at an event like this. But you might want a different vibe for your big day, whether it’s a DJ or simply your own playlist.
