Weddings are officially back on for 2021! While there are plenty of trends that are popular for this year, there are a few that stand out from the pack. So if you’re one of the many couples planning their vows for this year–and you want to make sure your wedding is one to remember–take these six into consideration.
Destination Weddings
While 2020 was a hard year to pull off your dream destination wedding, people are ready to travel again this year. "Whether domestic, international, large, or small guest lists, destination weddings are trending to be as popular as ever, with Mexico and the Caribbean islands leading the pack," explains Jen Avey of Destination Weddings Travel Group.
Bold Colored Wedding Dresses
"We all love a classic white, ivory, or champagne dress, but our couples are now ready to really show the world who they are and that they’re okay being that non-traditional couple," says Lizzy Liz of Lizzy Liz Events.
Outdoor Weddings
Outdoor weddings became all the rage last year due to COVID restrictions, and many couples are still opting for them in 2021. "There has always been something special about an at-home wedding, but now they are really having their heyday," says Melisa Imberman of The Event of a Lifetime. "Backyards are the new Ballroom. If you don’t a backyard to tent, not to worry…event planners, caterers & venues have been working overtime to find spaces to tent."
Locally-Sourced Items
While local isn't a new trend, it's become a priority for many couples as they plan their weddings for 2021 and beyond. “With so many small businesses affected by the pandemic (as well as shipping delays everywhere), couples are making a point of supporting local shops first rather than taking to their favorite online store,” says Kylie Carlson of The Wedding Academy.
Bright Colors
Bold hues are big in 2021. "For summer weddings in particular, pink, plum, and pomegranate will be the perfect mixture of soft and vivid hues," reveals Eddie Zaratsian of Eddie Zaratsian Lifestyle & Design. "These shades will pop in outdoor spaces, and you can add a touch of luxury to the reception florals with fruits paired with roses, calla lilies, anemones, and more."
Retro & Vintage Décor
Retro and vintage will also take center stage this year, notes Liz. "We are seeing warm color palettes back in with really amazing layered backdrops with different shapes and sizes, paired with acrylic laser cuts with fun love quotes or monograms," she explains.
