The Dress
A bridesmaid's most important expense is the dress she’ll wear to the wedding, and how much it costs depends on the bride’s taste. Some brides will simply pick a color and let her maids choose their own dresses, while others insist on a uniform look and then the choice is solely up to her. If you’re on a super tight budget, be sure to be honest about exactly how much you can spend on this item.
Accessories
Of course, you’ll need shoes to match that dress, but there’s also jewelry and possibly a wrap or shrug if it’s going to be cold (although many brides will gift their bridesmaids with a few of these extra items before the big day).
Alterations
Many dresses need to be altered, which can set you back a few hundred dollars depending on the work and who is doing it.
Hair & Makeup
Even if you’re great with your hair and makeup, this might not be something you want to take on before such an important event. This is probably a splurge you want to make.
The Bridal Shower
At the very least, you will need to buy a gift for the bride-to- be. Most of the time, the bride's mother plans and pays for the shower, but you should offer to chip in and help out if needed.
The Bachelorette Party
Whether it's a weekend away or a night out with the girls, this another mandatory expense so start saving now.
Travel Expenses
This really depends on where the wedding is held. If it's a destination wedding or you live in a different area than the couple, you might need to pay for airfare and hotel. Even if it's local, you might want to still spring for a hotel room near the venue so you can have a good time without worrying how to get home.
Wedding Gift
While some couples don't expect gifts from their bridal party (after all, you just spent a pretty penny in the months leading up to the wedding), others might not let you off the hook.
