1. Using Non-Certified Chargers
When you pick up any old, cheap charging block and charging cables on Amazon or at other retailers, you save money. But you aren’t necessarily doing what’s best for your phone and its battery, which could end up costing you more money in the long run if you start experiencing phone battery issues. It’s important to only use charging accessories that are certified for use with Apple products (MFI-certified). These are designed to provide your device with the charge it needs — nothing too fast or too slow.
2. Charging Too Often and For Too Long
Smart phones aren’t meant to hang out on charging cables for hours or even overnight. Overcharging your phone can lead to your battery becoming overheated, which is a major factor behind battery degradation. Aim to keep your phone charged between 30 and 80 percent with short bursts of charging throughout the day, rather than longer charging sessions.
3. Charging Your Phone in Extreme Temperatures
Extreme heat or cold is one of your phone battery’s mortal enemies. When you add charging into the equation — say when you charge your phone in your car while it is positioned under direct sunlight — you speed up the risk of your battery overheating. Always charge your phone in room temperature conditions and try to stay off of it while it’s charging, as well. This also helps reduce its temperature.
