Donald Trump has made a lot of changes to the White House and other federal organizations since he took office for the second time this year. He created DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, he’s made major budget cuts to the National Park Service, slashed the number of employees at the National Weather Service, and now, he has his sights set on the Department of Defense. The 79-year-old felon wants to rename the government organization to The Department of War, saying the country should be more focused on offense than defense. Keep reading for more information.

Donald Trump Wants To Rename The Department of Defense

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office earlier this week, Trump decided the Department of Defense needed a name change. "I used to be called the Department of War and it had a stronger sound. We want defense but we want offense too...As Department of War we won everything, we won everything and I think we're going to have to go back to that."

Shockingly, Trump correctly cited that the Department of Defense was once called the Department of War, but was renamed through the National Security Act of 1947, which unified the Army, Navy, and Air Force. In 1949, an amendment was passed to rename the organization the Department of Defense.

Many users online think it's odd that Trump is simultaneously working to rename the DoD the Department of War while also clamoring to receive a Nobel Peace Prize. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed that Trump's usage of tariffs to force ceasefires around the world is proof he "deserves the Nobel Peace Prize."

Social Media Reactions

Social media users, though, for the most part disagree. "Thought he was going to end all wars?" one person wrote in an Instagram comment, and another said, "But he wants the Nobel Peace Prize? Completely nonsensical."

"The whole world is laughing at us," another person posted. "Another thing the people did not ask for."

Another person theorized that Trump is pushing the name change as a way of testing the waters to see how Americans feel about going to war. "He's gearing up for WW3 folks. Remember how interested he was when Zelenskyy said no elections during war, that is what he'll do so Republicans can remain in power."

"The US Government is just theatre and bad comedy at that," another user wrote.

"Doing everything but actually helping the American people!" a final comment reads.
