Donald Trump Credits Melania Trump With Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire
According to a statement from the White House, the first lady was behind the ceasefire established between Russia and Ukraine in the city of Oleshky, which is set to begin on October 29. The agreement will temporarily halt all military action in the city to allow humanitarian aid to reach residents and facilitate the evacuation of civilians through a designated safe passageway.
"The situation in Oleshky is dire. Oleshky is a front-line war city on the brink of disaster," Melania said. "It was abundantly clear that without my intervention, the possibility to bring humanitarian aid into the city and to evacuate the elderly would be impossible."
The White House detailed how Melania and a representative worked directly with Russian and Ukrainian leadership, with the first lady serving as the "Exclusive Intermediary."
Donald Trump Says Melania Trump Has The 'Most Important Ideas'
This news comes shortly after Donald Trump credited his wife with some of his administration's "most important ideas." On October 19th, he and Melania made a rare joint appearance to sign an executive order titled "Advancing Women's Health to Improve Outcomes in All Phases of Life," which aims to expand research, improve diagnoses and treatments, and address health conditions affecting women and girls.
During the event, Trump praised Melania's involvement in the initiative as well as her previous work on programs supporting children and families. "I want to thank Melania for coming up with some of the most important ideas, probably of the administration," he said.
He went on to say that Melania had made "an outstanding contribution" to the well-being of American children and families through her Fostering the Future and Be Best initiatives. He also praised her work ethic: "Melania works so hard," he said. 'You wouldn't believe it. And she’s accomplished so much in a very short period of time."
