From Chick-Fil-A sauce to Taco Bell nacho cheese, many fast food restaurants have coined their own signature dipping sauces. But perhaps the most iconic is the infamous Big Mac sauce from McDonald’s. You’re not alone if you frequently get a craving for this creamy concoction.
Luckily for those of us who can’t get enough of the tangy stuff, a former McDonald’s chef, Mike Haracz, just revealed his recipe for whipping up a copycat Big Mac sauce at home—and believe it or not, Big Mac sauce is lacking one shocking ingredient you may have swore was in it. As it turns out, there’s no ketchup in the recipe at all!

McDonald’s Big Mac Sauce Recipe
Here’s what is in the pink-tinged sauce, according to Haracz:
- 1 cup mayo
- 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish
- 2 tablespoons Düsseldorf mustard
- 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
- 1 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 1/8 teaspoon white pepper
“As you can see there is no ketchup in this recipe,” the former McDonald’s chef points out while mixing the ingredients together with a whisk. “The color you get from Big Mac sauce is just from paprika.” Who knew?!
The process of making it at home is pretty straightforward. Once you mix it all together, Haracz says you should let it sit for a half hour to make sure the seasonings settle.
"This is as close as you are going to get," he concludes. We won't argue with that—he did used to work for McDonald's, after all!
So, next time you're craving a Big Mac, why not put your own sauce skills to the test by playing chef in your kitchen and making a batch of the special sauce yourself? Will you try it out? And are you surprised by anything in the recipe? Let us know in the comments!
