During a time when a lot more of us are spending a great deal of time at home, it’s comforting to know there are plenty of streaming services that will keep us company. We rely on services like Hulu, Netflix, and HBO Go  to deliver entertainment comfort food — the shows and movies that keep us laughing, thinking, and inspired. So whenever one of those services initiates a change — especially one that is about to affect our wallets — it’s always an unwelcome surprise. And this case is no exception: Hulu just made a huge announcement — and some customers are so furious they are switching to Netflix.

If you love Hulu, get ready to pay more. The price of the virtual TV bundle is about to experience a sharp increase — from $54.99/month for Hulu with Live TV to $64.99/month. But before you cancel your subscription, it’s helpful to keep these prices in perspective.

For starters, Hulu at its new price will now be competitive with YouTube TV, which also costs $64.99 per 12 months. Perhaps one of the reasons why the Hulu increase seems so out of the blue is because it feels like Hulu just hiked up its price from $44.99 to $54.99, but this change occurred back in December 2019 and the provider has since increased its content.

Hulu TV offers subscribers an opportunity to enjoy Hulu’s original content, while also getting access to live TV and sports without having to pay astronomically high cable bills. Hulu’s 65+ channels include ESPN, TLC, Food Network, and the Disney Channel. Hulu Original shows like The Handmaid’s Tale, Happiest Season, and Mrs. America have helped catapult Hulu to must-see TV status.

If the Hulu price increase has turned you off, Sling’s full TV plan still costs $45 a month, but keep in mind that it doesn’t offer as much content, so there’s a trade-off for saving money. Netflix continues to provide three subscription plans that start at $9 per month and end in $18 per month, but you’ll still have to pay for cable TV and news separately.

The bottom line: streaming services that include live TV and sports are bound to be the most expensive, but deciding which service is right for you can still save you more money in the long run.
