It seems like just yesterday we were revving up for the debut of the iPhone 12 — but Apple moves fast and its next model is just days away from hitting shelves and becoming available to iPhone devotees. The iPhone 13 release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it is expected to become available sometime this fall. In the meantime, a few tidbits have been leaked about the new model and what you can expect — both the good and the not-so-good. Will it be worth the Apple hype and its usual generous price tag? The iPhone 13 is almost here — and this is everything we know so far about it.
The biggest buzz around the iPhone 13 concerns its battery — and a rumor has leaked that the newest model would come equipped with the biggest battery capacity yet. In fact, according to ZDNet writer Adrian Kingsley-Hughes: “The numbers I've seen show the [iPhone] Pro Max battery capacity going up from 3687mAh to 4352mAh.” That alone would make it an Apple phone with the biggest battery yet. This could also mean the iPhone Pro Max may be the Apple device that lasts the longest. And the battery capacity for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro is no slouch, either. Kingsley-Hughes reported that the iPhone 13 Pro and and iPhone 13 batteries will increase from 2815mAh to 3095mAh, while we can expect the iPhone 13 Mini to hit the market with a 2406mAh battery, which is a slight (big not insignificant) jump from the current iPhone 12 Mini’s 2227mAh battery.
The iPhone 13 will also benefit from a 5G modem and its chipset is expected to see an improvement. The latest A15 chipset is reportedly 20% more efficient than the iPhone 12’s A14 chipset, which means its power will increase. Similar to the iPhone 12, you can expect four iPhone 13 models and the iPhone 13 Pro may be receiving three camera upgrades that include portrait video mode (excellent news for anyone who dabbles in first-person tutorials). There’s even an exciting rumor that one of the four models may come in a portless design.
So, when can you expect to see the iPhone 13 and how much money should you be storing away?
According to Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the release date for the iPhone 13 is back on schedule after last year’s coronavirus-related delay pushed its sale date to October. What that usually means for Apple users is it will become available on the fourth Friday of September, which is September 24 this year. As far as pricing goes, Apple experts are quick to point out that the company tends to keep its phone prices consistent with previous models. In the case of the iPhone 12, that would mean $699, $799, $999 and $1,099.
As is always the case with Apple, we can’t confirm any of the rumors about its new models because Apple prefers keeping its details under wraps. But if the newer phones have better batteries it could make it much easier to justify its price — and make you feel just a little less guilty about shelling out for the latest and greatest.
