Want Your iPhone To Charge Faster? Avoid Doing These Mistakes

There’s nothing more frustrating than plugging in your iPhone, expecting a quick battery boost—only to find that it’s crawling toward a full charge like it has all day to spare. Whether you’re trying to top off before running out the door or just want your phone juiced up before bed, slow charging can really throw a wrench in your plans. It’s easy to assume your charger is to blame, but there are actually a handful of common reasons your phone might not be charging as quickly as it should.

Good news: you’re not stuck with sluggish charging forever. In many cases, a few small tweaks to your routine — or correcting a few easily overlooked mistakes — can make a big difference in how fast your battery fills up. From the type of cable you’re using to the background tasks running on your phone, there are several factors that might be slowing things down. Here are three mistakes that you can correct today for faster iPhone charging.

1. Using an incompatible charger

Not all chargers are equipped to deliver the right amount of power your iPhone needs, especially when it comes to fast charging. If you’re using a charger that isn’t designed for your model or lacks proper wattage output (ike an older iPhone charger on a newer device) it can significantly slow down the charging process. Apple devices are designed to optimize charging speed with specific adapters, so using something not correctly powered or not Apple-certified can result in your phone charging much more slowly than it should.

2. Using your phone while it charges

It’s tempting to scroll, stream, or text while your phone is plugged in, but doing so can slow down how quickly your battery fills up. When your iPhone is actively being used, especially for power-heavy tasks like video calls or gaming, it's drawing power at the same time it's trying to charge. This means your device is essentially competing with itself, which can reduce charging efficiency and make it take much longer to reach 100 percent charged.

3. Charging in a hot room

High temperatures can have a big impact on your iPhone's charging speed. When your phone gets too warm, either from the environment or from being used while charging, it may automatically slow down or pause the charging process to protect the battery from heat-related damage. Charging in a hot room or leaving your phone on a windowsill in direct sunlight while it’s plugged in can cause your iPhone to activate these built-in safety measures, which slows everything down to avoid overheating. Keeping your phone cool during charging helps maintain both speed and long-term battery health.
