2 iPhone Storage Mistakes That Are Slowing Down Your Device And Using Up All The Space

It’s easy to forget just how much we rely on our iPhones until they start slowing down or constantly flashing that dreaded “Storage Almost Full” warning. Between snapping countless photos, downloading apps, and letting text threads pile up, our phones can quietly fill up with digital clutter. Over time, all of this background buildup can bog down performance, making everything from opening apps to taking photos feel frustratingly sluggish.

The good news? A lot of that storage drain and slowdown comes from simple, fixable habits — and a few small changes can make a big difference. There are several easy-to-miss ways you might be wasting space without realizing it. Here are two iPhone storage mistakes that could be slowing down your device and taking up tons of space.

1. Not Clearing Your Cache

Over time, your iPhone builds up cached data — including temporary files from websites, apps, and system processes that are meant to speed things up but can actually start to slow your phone down if left unchecked. Apps like Safari, Instagram, and even Messages can accumulate a surprising amount of this hidden clutter, eating into your storage and potentially impacting performance. To clear it out, start with Safari by going to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data.

2. Storing Full-Resolution Photos and Videos on your Phone

High-quality photos and 4K videos might look stunning, but they also take up a massive amount of storage space, especially if you’re hanging onto years’ worth of them. Keeping these full-res files directly on your device can quickly lead to storage overload, slowing down performance and making it harder to install updates or new apps. A smart fix is to enable iCloud Photos and turn on the Optimize iPhone Storage setting (found under Settings > Photos), which keeps lower-resolution versions on your device and stores the originals in the cloud. That way, you can still access everything without weighing down your phone.
