Jimmy Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney, sat down for a rare joint interview where they opened up about the latest dramatic and controversial moments of his late-night career.

The couple sat down for an interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, where they reflected on the temporary suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! last year and the fallout surrounding his ongoing feud with President Donald Trump. While Jimmy has continued to speak out against the president despite facing repeated backlash and calls for his show to be canceled, Molly offered her own perspective on the situation and made it clear that she believes her husband’s voice remains important. Jimmy Kimmel & His Wife Molly McNearney Talk About His Tension With President Trump On 'Armchair Expert'

The celebrity couple appeared together on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast on August 24th, giving listeners a rare glimpse into their relationship both personally and professionally. The couple first met while working together on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, with Molly eventually becoming the show's co-head writer and executive producer. Although their relationship began while Kimmel was her boss, the two eventually married in 2013 and now share two children, Jane and Billy.

During their conversation, the married couple also revisited the controversy that temporarily took Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air in September of last year. ABC suspended the late-night show following Jimmy's comments about the killing of conservative podcast host Charlie Kirk, sparking more tension between the president and his supporters. Jimmy ultimately returned to the show after six days and continued using his platform to poke fun at Trump and his policies.

The pair recalled what that experience was like while speaking to the actor and podcast host during their interview.

"I let it roll off my back much more than I ever had," Jimmy revealed. "The older I get, the less affected I am by that. I think I'm not as connected to what people are saying. Before I did this job, and even before I was on television, I was in a very stressful job as a radio disc jockey, getting fired from town to town to town. I've become hardened in some ways... [Now] I go, 'OK, if I don't have this job, we're going to be OK.'"

Molly Says She Encouraged Jimmy To 'Keep Fighting' & Not Retire After His Suspension

During their more revealing interview, the dad-of-two and his wife also acknowledged that he has been thinking about retiring from late-night television, especially with his future on Jimmy Kimmel Live! becoming questionable in recent months.

While the writer admitted that the idea of him stepping away could bring some relief to their household, she made it clear that she isn't ready for him to stop speaking out.

"It's like he deserves to go out there and just be on the river and relax, but I also want him to keep fighting," she admitted. "And I feel this sense of desire to not quit because I think what he's doing is incredibly important right now. And yes, I know we're doing it in a vacuum, but I think it's giving people a feeling that their voices are heard, and I think it's important. But as his wife, I really would like him to be able to not do this show anymore so he could relax."

Giving his loyal fans some reassurance, the comedian's wife added that while she likes the idea of retiring soon, she's also open to continuing her and her husband's late-night work for a bit longer.

"Me, I'm good either way," she continued. "Like, I'm I'm I would be happy to be done with the show in a great end it in a great way and do my own next thing. But I do care deeply about that show and the people who work there. And I think the voice is really important right now."
