It’s been months since news broke that Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux were separating, but it still feels like yesterday for us Jen-Justin fans.

If you’re still hoping that the former couple will get back together, then we’ve got some bad news for you… Theroux spoke candidly about the divorce in an interview with the New York Times this weekend and the chances of that happening are looking very slim.

This is Theroux’s first time publicly addressing the divorce in an interview, a breakup he said was done as amicably as possible because they “respected each other enough that it was as painless as it could be."

“The good news is that was probably the most—I'm choosing my words really carefully—it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity," the actor said.

Theroux noted that their actor lifestyles helped ease the transition and cushion the blow of the divorce. He said being actor causes you to follow a “kind of a carny lifestyle” that forces you to endure frequent separations, which is why his breakup with Aniston “doesn't have that seismic shift of an ordinary couple, where everything is, like, you have to tear a baby in half."

But Theroux still stressed that the divorce was “heartbreaking,” especially considering that their friendship would inevitably change. Thankfully, the two actors have been successfully navigating through their new dynamic and have managed to remain close.

“The friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we're both very proud of,” he explained.

Aniston also recently spoke about the divorce in an interview with InStyle this summer, where she tackled the media’s “misconceptions” of the divorce and how she’s been coping.

“The misconceptions are 'Jen can't keep a man,' and 'Jen refuses to have a baby because she's selfish and committed to her career.' Or that I'm sad and heartbroken," she said. "First, with all due respect, I'm not heartbroken. And second, those are reckless assumptions.”

Divorce is hard, but we’re happy to hear that Jen and Justin are doing well and still on good terms with each other.
