Kate Hudson is one of the most adored stars in Hollywood, but it looks like the actress is facing backlash on social media. News broke that the actress will be joining forces with Weight Watchers, which recently rebranded to WW, in 2019 to help her lose the weight she gained after having her third child and people aren’t happy that she’s brand’s newest ambassador.

Here’s what’s going down:

The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

Hudson, who just welcomed daughter Rani Rose, two months ago, revealed this week that she will be using the famous weight loss program to reach her goal of losing 25 pounds before shooting a new film in the spring. The exciting announcement was done by Hudson and Oprah Winfrey, another famous WW ambassador, on social media and was quickly met with backlash from upset fans.

“I’ve become an Ambassador for the WW family because it is the perfect community for people to live healthy their own way and I love sharing this knowledge with you all! This is not a community for people who just want to lose weight, although leading a healthy lifestyle lends itself to such, this is a community about supporting each other through a lifelong journey of wellness. I’m so happy to share this with everyone and I have to say, having @oprah on my call list was a dream come true,” Hudson shared on Instagram, along with a video of her FaceTiming with Oprah announcing the big news.

Commenters took to various social media platforms criticizing Hudson’s involvement in the program. Most people thought that the actress, who is the owner of the athletic workout gear brand Fabletics and known for her fit lifestyle, didn’t belong in the program because of her affinity for fitness.

“Why the hell is Kate Hudson doing WW?!!' one Facebook user asked. 'Come ON people!! And don't give me any of that "wellness" bulls**t. This is a weight loss program and Hudson is in it for the cash.”

“Losing weight after having a child is different than losing weight due to a long span of overeating,” another woman added, noting that Kate will lose the baby weight whether or not she is following the points program.

“Kate Hudson joining Weight Watchers is lame AF,' commented one Twitter user. 'Doesn't she have a fitness clothing line?”

“Kate Hudson is now a Weight Watchers ambassador???? She just had a baby and had abs of steel between each pregnancy. Pretty sure she doesn't need WW,” another wrote.

Hudson has yet to respond on the backlash she’s received, but she did open up to People about her excitement for joining the program and why the time felt right to sign up.

“It came at a perfect time for me, because at this point after having three babies it’s like sense memory. You want to start getting back into shape and to get strong again and focus on your own personal health,” the new mom explained. “It’s hard when you have babies. Everyone comes before you, and you have to find that time to just focus in on yourself.”

She also applauded WW’s practical and relatable approach to weight loss, praising the brand for placing importance on educating dieters on how to make healthier decisions using foods they already love.

“I don’t think it’s as much about changing anything, as it is about knowledge of the things that you love,” Hudson continued. “That’s the thing that sets it apart to me from everything else. This is about understanding your wellness. It’s about understanding your fitness activity, understanding your food, understanding the things that you love. It’s about how to balance.”

Ironically, Hudson revealed that the biggest deciding factor for joining the WW team was the sense of community and support she’s seen members display for each other, explaining that thinks finding a supportive community is one of the most effective ways for “people to live their most optimum life.”

“I am excited to walk down a street and have someone come up and say they’re a part of the community, because it means they’re doing something good for themselves, and that they want to be a part of a community that’s about something that’s really inspiring,” Hudson explained.
