Anne Hathaway looked radiant in a blue Dior dress for The Odyssey premiere on Monday, July 6th – but the white dress she wore to the photocall the day before wasn’t nearly as big a hit, to put it mildly!
The Oscar-winning actress appears in Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey as Penelope, the Queen of Ithaca, alongside an all-star cast including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Matt Damon and more. And while some people praised her dress and were obsessed with her pregnancy glow, others weren’t so impressed with the outfit!

Anne Hathaway Wears A Ruffled Blumarine Dress To 'The Odyssey' Photocall In London
The 43-year-old Princess Diaries alum, who announced that she and husband Adam Shulman were expecting their third child in a surprise video last month, attended The Odyssey photocall at IET London: Savoy Place on Sunday, July 5th in a white dress from David Koma's Blumarine Resort 2027 collection.
The divisive maternity dress featured an off-the-shoulder halter neckline and a high-low hem, with ruffles throughout the neckline, sleeves, and hem. She accessorized with suede over-the-knee boots – which also divided social media – and a white heart-shaped Chanel handbag.
The Devil Wears Prada star's brunette locks were worn in a sleek and straight down do, mostly tucked behind her shoulders to let the dress command all of the attention.
Mixed Social Media Reactions
As we mentioned earlier, some people were obsessed with the look, while others couldn't get on board with the dress, the boots, and the overall styling.
"Ethereal," praised one supportive fan on Instagram. "Beautiful mama," gushed a second, followed by the heart-eyes emoji. "Absolutely beautiful!" exclaimed a third, followed by three pink heart emojis, as a fourth thought she was "glowing."
"You look wonderful," raved a fifth, as a sixth said she was "aging like fine wine." "Love the boots," wrote a seventh, as an eighth said they "love that Chanel bag." But not all the reviews were positive, as a ninth said, "Looks like it's made out of toilet paper."
And the same comments about the toilet paper resemblance continued over on Reddit. "There's a lot I like about this. But ultimately think it'd look better without the tassels. I'm skeeved out by how they're dragging on the floor in some of the photos, and they remind me a bit of toilet paper," wrote one Reddit user.
"Totally thought toilet paper as well. Not something I like to be associated with personally," agreed a second, as a third concurred: "My immediate thought was also toilet paper."
"It's a no for me. I despise the waving tails and the silhouette is awkward with those icky boots," slammed a fourth, as a fifth echoed: "With those boots, this outfit looks like Big Bird in white."
"It's way too short and she doesn't look comfortable," noted a sixth, as a seventh said: "Not into this; dress is awkwardly short in the front she seems uncomfortable, and those boots just don't work with the dress at all." "Oh honey, no," wrote an eighth.
