Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, celebrated their son’s first birthday in a candid and adorable video. In addition to sharing Archie’s milestone with the world, they also slipped the one-year-old’s nickname during the video—Arch!
Markle read Archie his favorite book, Duck! Rabbit!, for Save With Stories on Instagram while Harry manned the camera. As Archie helps his mom turn the pages, you can hear Meghan say, “Let’s turn the page, let’s show everybody. Let’s go to the next page — look Arch!”
Meghan and Harry had shared the inspiration behind naming their son Archie before. His name, along with the name of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s charitable organization Archewell, comes from the Greek word “arche” meaning ‘source of action.”
Archie’s full name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The name did come as somewhat of a surprise when it was first announced. Most of Britain assume that his name would take on one of the more traditional names like Arthur, James, Philip, and Albert.
However, Harrison literally means “son of Harry” and the surname Mountbatten-Windsor belongs to all the children and descendants of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. No matter what his parents call him, Archie or Arch, the adorable one-year-old will steal the show wherever he appears.
