The source explained Meghan's reasoning, "She said the book will finally set the record straight and show the world why they were left with no other choice than to leave the royal life."
According to the source, Meghan wants people to see "the genuine person that she is."
She also hopes the book will "shatter this image of being a demanding diva."
The friend explained, "I think [Meghan] wants people to feel sorry for her, or at least have compassion for her and all she's been through, which has been anything but a fairy tale."
Meghan and Harry's decision to leave the royal family was met with a lot of criticism from the media, and even the Queen seemed disappointed and upset by the news.
With that in mind, Meghan believes the book will help give her and her husband a "clean slate" by helping readers understand "the monumental anguish and turmoil she had to endure with a stiff upper lip."
