Melania Trump Reads To Children At Christmastime

Earlier this week the First Lady visited the Children’s National Hospital to spread some holiday cheer. Kids gathered around her to listen to her read How Does Santa Go Down The Chimney? written by Mac Barnett and illustrated by Jon Klassen. However, Melania made one big mistake: she didn’t share any of the illustrations with the children!

After reading each page, Melania simply flipped to the next, neglecting to show the kids gathered around her what she was looking at on each page. For many kids, the pictures are the best part of any book, and with Melania’s thick accent, it probably would’ve helped to see the illustrations along with her narration.

Social Media Reactions

Across social media platforms, users are criticizing Melania for missing a big aspect of a read aloud. "She's never read to a child before in her life," one person wrote on Instagram, and another agreed: "Tell me you left the parenting to the nanny without telling me."

"As someone who does storytime every week... girl, you gotta show the pictures," another user wrote. "I'm seriously gonna use this video as a prime example of how NOT to do a storytime when I teach the basics to new employees."

"This is so sad," another person posted. "She can't even read at a 5th grade level."

"Poor Baron, something tells me his mom didn't read to him much," one comment reads.

"First time reading a children's book," a final comment reads. "What not to do version!"
