Amazon Prime has confirmed that their series, A League of Their Own, which depicted a team of women baseball players during World War II, will not be returning for a second season after only one installment.

The cancellation of this series, an adaptation of the beloved 1992 film of the same name (but with new characters and queer storylines), has been met with dismay from its audience and cast members alike, who have voiced their sadness through social media.

Prime Video Cancels A League Of Their Own: Fans React

The show's co-creator and star Abbi Jacobson, who played the team's catcher Carson Shaw, voiced her disappointment regarding the cancellation in an Instagram post for her 1.1 million followers.

On August 18th, Jacobson wrote: "What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much. What a rare thing in life. And so I am sad today."

The Broad City alum went on: "To blame this cancellation on the strike, (which is an essential fight for fair wages, protections and working conditions, etc…) is bulls—t and cowardly. But this post isn’t about all that. About all the ways this show has been put through the ringer. Not today."

Jacobson continued: "This post here is about the special show I was lucky to make with so many incredibly talented artists and actors and writers and crew. A show I’m so proud of. Filled to the brim with stories worth telling. Full of so much heart and soul and value. Thank you for watching. To the five."

One fan commented: "Shame on them. It's so good." One other agreed: "This show changed and bettered countless lives. I am perpetually grateful that you brought it into the world, Coach."

More fans of the show headed to Jacobson's post's comment section to share their thoughts. "Hopefully the show will get picked up by another streaming service," one wrote, adding: "This show is too good to just end after one season. We finallly had a good, quality show with lesbian/ queer representation. It was an amazing show with great actors and it got good reviews! So I don''t understand it at all. Shocked."

Another commented: "I'm so sorry that amazon treated this series like garbage. It's EASILY the best original series amazon has ever been so lucky to have had on their platform. genuinely one of my favorite shows I've ever seen and made myself and many others feel seen."

Last month, Amazon announced that the show was officially cancelled, and revealed that the series would not continue, following its successful debut season that made a lasting impression.
