Sydney Sweeney is one of today’s most famous celebrities, yet that doesn’t mean she hasn’t had her fair share of controversy.

The Euphoria actress has been in the hot seat ever since her controversial American Eagle jeans campaign, which led to her politics and political beliefs being examined under a microscope by the public. Since her party affiliation was released and since receiving praise from President Trump himself, Sydney was labeled as a “MAGA Barbie,” a nickname that she finally addressed in a new magazine interview. Read more about what she had to say below.

Sydney Sweeney Addresses Her 'MAGA Barbie' Nickname In A New Interview

The 28-year-old star has had a super busy year and has a lot going on in her life, with new movies being released, a new lingerie brand that just came out, and more.

Although many of her projects have been in focus, so has her personal life, and more specifically, her politics. Her political views were questioned for years, and things only got more intense when President Donald Trump praised her for her highly controversial American Eagle jeans advertisement. Although the campaign was called out and accused of being uninclusive and even blatantly racist by numerous internet users, the president said it was "fantastic."

Since then, it has been revealed that, in terms of her voting status, she was a registered Republican and stayed silent regarding some social justice issues that have been magnified since President Trump entered his second term. Therefore, the internet gave her an official nickname of a 'MAGA Barbie,' which she finally acknowledged in her new Cosmopolitan cover interview.

"I've never been here to talk about politics," she said. "I've always been here to make art, so this is just not a conversation I want to be at the forefront of, and I think because of that, people want to take it even further and use me as their own pawn. But it's somebody else assigning something to me, and I can't control that."

Later, when asked if she was someone who is interested in or passionate about politics, the actress said that she's "in the arts" and was "not here to speak on politics."

"I'm not a hateful person," she added. "If I say, 'That's not true,' they'll come at me like, 'You're just saying that to look better.' There's no winning. There's never any winning. I just have to continue being who I am, because I know who I am. I can't make everyone love me. I know what I stand for."

Fans React To Sydney's Comments On Social Media Platforms

Although the Christy performer stated in her interview that she doesn't "believe in hate" and wants everyone to "love each other," many social media users did not take kindly to her latest comments on politics and her political beliefs. Many felt that what she was saying was both insincere and didn't make sense, given her large platform and influence in the entertainment industry.

On social media platforms like Reddit, Instagram, and more, fans and other internet users flooded comment sections with critiques for the actress and expressed their disappointment.

One Reddit user called the actress a "coward" for not saying more about her political affiliations, and others wrote that it sounded like she was "in denial."

Other users felt her statements about not associating the arts with politics were questionable.

"Art is inherently political a lot of the time, but Sydney lacks the critical thinking skills and depth to understand that," commented a user.

"Right, so she's MAGA and doesn't want to lose supporters," wrote another.

"If you cannot say that you disagree with what's going on, you definitely agree with what is going on," added a critic.
