The Text Setting You Should Change Immediately Because It’s Draining Your iPhone Battery

If you just so happen to possess the kind of iPhone that’s constantly buzzing with one text message after another (after another), you’re not only a busy bee with quite the work and social life, but you are also the proud owner of a phone that is more likely to lose battery power fast. (Sorry to break that news). It’s sad but true: snapping photos and videos isn’t the only phone habit that takes up monstrous amounts of battery power — texting can also do a number on your phone. Of course, you aren’t going to stop living just to maintain a battery charge, so you need other solutions that can keep your battery running for longer and not send you searching far and wide for the nearest charger. Tech experts say this is the one text setting you should change immediately because it’s draining your battery — and there are a few general texting tips that are also wise to follow to keep your battery strong.

Auto Correction

Texting can drain your iPhone battery because the screen is on and active, even when you’re not actively texting, Tobias Dankworth, CTO at Debt Bombshell, reminds us. “There are a few ways to combat this and keep your battery healthy. One is to change the settings on your phone. There is a text setting called “Auto-Correction” that can be a huge battery drainer. When this setting is turned on, your phone is constantly checking your text for errors and correcting them. This takes up a lot of battery power and can quickly drain your battery.”

To turn off Autocorrect (and never have to encounter the correction “ducking” again), open the settings on your iPhone, tap General, tap Keyboard, and toggle the option for “Auto Correction” so that it’s turned off.

Other Ways To Save Battery Power

Another text setting that can drain your iPhone battery is known as “Dynamic Type,” says Sakib Ahmed, a tech expert from OurPCB Tech Limited. “Dynamic Type allows users to adjust the font size in iOS apps to match their preferred reading size, but the larger the font size, the more processing power it requires and thus, it can have an impact on battery life,” Ahmed said.

To keep Dynamic Type from draining your battery, Ahmed says you can try the following tips:

  • Reduce the font size: Decreasing the font size to a smaller setting can reduce the processing power required and thus save battery life.
  • Turn off auto-brightness: Auto-brightness adjusts the brightness of your display based on ambient light, but it requires additional processing power. You can turn it off and set a lower brightness level manually to reduce battery drain.
  • Turn off background app refresh: Background app refresh allows apps to update and refresh their content in the background, even when you’re not using them. This can have a significant impact on battery life. You can turn it off or choose which apps can refresh in the background.
  • Limit the use of animated wallpapers and live photos: Animated wallpapers and live photos require more processing power and can drain your battery faster. You can use a still wallpaper instead.

“By making these adjustments, you can help extend the battery life of your iPhone and make it more efficient,” Ahmed said.
