By now you have probably come across so many reasons why your iPhone refuses to hold a charge. You may firmly believe there’s no hope left for your device and that you’ll inevitably have to shell out a ton more money for a new phone because yours refuses to stay powered for longer than a few hours. But don’t run to the Apple store just yet. Even after you’ve deleted the Facebook app and committed to a regular routine of frequent, shorter charging bursts to keep your phone in the sweet 30 to 80% charging zone, your iPhone could be refusing to maintain its charge long enough. Tech Expert Steven Walker, CEO of Spylix, has a solution — this is the number one reason your iPhone battery keeps dying (and it’s not what you think).

Background applications run too much phone battery

“Sometimes your iPhone battery dies so quickly all of a sudden [even after you’ve] just charged it a few hours ago,” Walker says. “I found battery-draining applications are responsible for it.” The culprit, Walker says, is that many apps run even though you don’t use them, and they’ll use up your iPhone’s battery and the wireless data connection to keep up with the daily tasks.

Although you may not even be aware that background applications is running and consuming so much battery power, there’s a simple solution to this problem: you can avoid battery drainage by turning off background application refresh.

“Locate the ‘general’ button and turn off certain apps from the ‘background app refresh’ option,” Walker says. “It is also an excellent method to examine other iPhone battery drain fast errors.”

And another tip from Walker that will keep your battery running for longer? Avoid streaming media on your phone — no matter how great a distraction apps like Netflix and YouTube provide, they will zap your phone of battery supremely fast.
