Mitch McConnell is starting to get more defense from some of his Republican colleagues regarding his ability to perform his job, but many internet users are not falling for it.
Thom Tillis, a Republican senator from North Carolina, recently gave an interview where he stated he believed the 84-year-old politician’s brain was “as sharp as it ever was.” His comments follow his three-month absence from the Senate floor, as well as weeks of speculation as to whether or not he was even still alive. Despite his colleagues’ defense, many social media users are still doubtful that Mitch is fit to carry out his job, and slammed Thom’s comments online. Read more about what he had to say and how the internet reacted below.

Thom Tillis Defends Mitch McConnell's Health
The famous Kentucky senator is facing renewed scrutiny over his health following a three-month absence from the Senate, with Republican Sen. Thom Tillis now speaking out to defend his longtime colleague.
Recently, Mitch returned to Capitol Hill in September after spending months recovering from a fall that led to a hospitalization and rehabilitation stay, but his appearance during his return sparked fresh discussion about his condition. After weeks away from the public eye, he returned to the Senate floor on September 14th to cast his first vote since June, arriving in a wheelchair and acknowledging that his recovery had been a long and frustrating process.
Now, Thom Tillis is pushing back against questions about his colleague's health, insisting that his colleague remains mentally sharp despite his physical struggles. During an interview with MS NOW, Thom defended Mitch's ability to engage in substantive political discussions, even as questions about his health continue to circulate.
"That man's brain is as sharp as it ever was," he claimed. "His body's failing him because he's had a lifelong struggle with polio. Now, people are telling me, when I can have a coherent discussion with him - I met with him a week or so, a couple of weeks ago - 'Mitch, how are you doing?' He spent probably less than 30 seconds talking about that, and he immediately jumped to, 'What are we going to do to help Ukraine? 'What are we going to do to save the Senate and keep the filibuster?'"

Social Media Users Slam Thom's Comments & Continue To Spread Speculation Regarding Mitch's Health
Despite Thom's reassurance, the Kentucky senator's return to Capitol Hill has continued to generate discussion online, with some social media users questioning whether the senator appears to have fully recovered from his recent health issues.
Many continue to be skeptical as to whether or not he's able to properly carry out his job, and others even felt that Thom's comments about Mitch being "sharper than ever" in his current state were a bit of an insult.
"That may be the greatest backhanded compliment ever," commented a Facebook user.
"Was he intending to tell a joke, or was that an accident?" asked another.
"So he's saying Mitch was never sharp," one user wrote, as another referred to the senator's apperance, adding, "His eyes tell a different story."
"Y'all know we can see him, right?" a user asked.
"If his mind is so sharp, why did they tell him he selected the wrong vote?" asked another. "Or did he vote correctly and they made him change it? Is it legal for you to change his vote?"
