Blake Shelton has charmed contestants and viewers alike as an iconic coach on The Voice for the past 12 years with his witty sense of humor, wise and heartfelt advice and obvious love for music. The “God’s Country” hitmaker, 46, revealed that he is stepping away from the musical competition show this week, and many fans on social media are taking the news hard in the time since his announcement.

The “Honey Bee” singer has worked as a coach on the talent series for all of its 22 seasons. Season 22 is currently airing weekly on NBC, and Season 23 (which airs in the spring 2023), will be his last. In a statement that the Grammy nominee shared with his 5.6 million Instagram followers, he wrote, “I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from ‘The Voice’ after season 23. This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me.”

Shelton continued, adding, “it’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best. It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week.” The “No Body” crooner then acknowledged the friends he made on the show, along with a sweet shout out for his wife, Gwen Stefani. He went on, “I’ve made lifelong bonds with Carson [Daly] and every single one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife Gwen Stefani!”

Shelton also thanked the singers he worked with on the show, and to those who “chose” him to be their coach. He concluded his bittersweet message by speaking directly to fans, “Lastly, it’s about y’all, the fans, who watch and support these artists, us coaches and everyone at The Voice who are chasing their dreams. It would not happen without you!”

Stefani, 53, sweetly commented under Shelton’s post, “i am so proud of you and so blessed to have found u. your talent brings joy to the hearts of so many people and i am so lucky to be part of ur life’s journey,” with a red heart as fans left kind words for the singer as well.

“Won’t be the same without you. You are the GOAT. There is no voice without you. I am so sad. I’ll miss seeing you on my TV screen every week,” one user wrote, as another added, “I am so sad to read this, but you put in your time and made the show what it is! You will be greatly missed! Hope to see you on TV in the future so I can still get in some belly laughs.”

While a Season 24 replacement coach for Shelton’s chair has yet to be announced, Variety reports that Season 23 will introduce two new coaches— pop singer-songwriter Niall Horan and Grammy-winning hip hop artist Chance the Rapper. The beloved Kelly Clarkson will also return to our screens for her ninth season as a Voice coach after a hiatus.

Horan, who got his start on The X Factor as a solo artist and then member of One Direction, expressed his excitement for joining The Voice (and he certainly knows a thing or two about being a contestant on a musical competition show!) In a statement, Horan said, “I’m excited to be joining this season of ‘The Voice’ as a coach. I’m looking forward to meeting and mentoring the new crop of talent while we battle it out with the other teams.”

Chance the Rapper shared a similar sentiment with fans, writing,“I’m thrilled to join ‘The Voice’ as a coach for the next season. I’m excited to help other artists get to the next level and make the most of this life-changing experience. Get ready for #teamchance.”

While Clarkson has yet to make an official statement about her re-joining The Voice, the “Since U Been Gone” singer did share an official Instagram announcement post from the official Voice account with her 6.2 million followers tagging all four incredible Season 23 judges. As one fan commented, “What a lineup!”
