JD Vance was a recent guest on a viral episode of the Joe Rogan podcast, where he unexpectedly defended the UFC fighter who made an offensive comment about former First Lady Michelle Obama during the Freedom 250 event.

The current vice president sat down for a long conversation with the controversial podcast host, where they spoke about a myriad of topics, including the Trump administration’s headline-making Freedom 250 UFC event at the White House. Eventually, the topic of fighter Josh Hokit insulting Michelle Obama during the televised event came up, and JD defended him after he was publicly bashed. Read more about his interview and the unexpected moment below.

UFC Fighter Josh Hokit Calls Michelle Obama 'A Man' During Freedom 250 Event

One of the most talked-about events of the summer so far has undoubtedly been the UFC fighting festivities that took place at the White House in honor of the Freedom 250 celebrations.

The event, which took place on Flag Day as well as President Donald Trump's 80th birthday, occurred on June 14th and involved a massive 90-ft UFC ring being built on the South Lawn of the White House. That evening, several fights between the martial arts organization's famous figures were televised, and numerous celebrities, as well as prominent members of the Trump family and administration, watched them in person.

During the event, prominent heavyweight fighter Josh Hokit was interviewed by media outlets after defeating Derrick Lewis. Suddenly, while celebrating his win, he took the mic, looked into a camera, and shouted, "Michelle Obama is a man! Am I right, America?" You can see a video of his speech here.

The fighter's statement was quickly met with intense backlash from social media users, on-air commentators, and more. However, he never issued an apology to the Becoming author and stood by his words. Now, it appears that a very influential person is continuing to come to his defense.

JD Vance Defends Josh Hokit On 'The Joe Rogan Experience'

Though the Freedom 250 UFC event at the White House occurred over a month ago, it's still being discussed on various platforms, especially Hokit's crude comment about the former first lady.

It was also discussed between two influential people on the right-leaning side of US politics, Vice President JD Vance and podcaster Joe Rogan. The vice president was a guest on the Joe Rogan Experience this past week, with the episode airing on Wednesday, July 15th. As the two men discussed the UFC event, they reflected on both the matches and the fighters' words about Michelle Obama, which the Hillbilly Elegy author seemed to brush off.

"I work in politics," he said. "People say crazy stuff all the time, man."

The podcast host then pushed the vice president to elaborate on his response, which continued to lean more towards defending the UFC fighter instead of pushing back against his comments.

"Again, not the best thing to say at the White House," Rogan added. "'Michelle Obama is a man' is not the best thing to say."

"Fair," Vance responded. "But the reaction to it, to me, was still totally disproportionate...people lost their minds about it."

The In My Opinion podcast host has yet to acknowledge both the initial statement from the fighter as well as the vice president's defensive comments, and it looks like she's remaining tight-lipped on the matter.
