If you really want to know about a woman's personality, simply look at her engagement ring, says gem expert Antoinette Matlins, co-author of Engagement and Wedding Rings. Click through the slideshow to find out what your engagement ring shape reveals about you.

A - Round

Traditional and classic. A round stone symbolizes traditional values when it comes to love and romance. "These brides have a classic style and approach to life," says Matlins. They’re also thoughtful and dependable, with their top priority being loved ones.

B - Emerald

Organized and decisive. An Emerald-cut is the most understated shape, with a subtle elegance associated with royalty. It traditionally symbolizes a more tailored style, and those who prefer this shape tend to be well organized and decisive, making excellent leaders. "Those who wear this shape have a quiet style and elegance, making it perfect for a woman who prefers not to stand out and flaunt what they have, but to exercise quiet power," explains Matlins.

C - Pear

Independent and balanced. A Pear shape is perfect for the gentle-natured, romantic bride, but one who also exhibits an independent side and isn't afraid to do it "her way." She also likes symmetry and balance in her life, and expects it from those around her. "This is another stone that goes in and out of fashion, but it is a lovely shape that never goes out of style," explains Matlins.

D - Princess

Attention-loving and driven. A Princess cut is for women who, of course, like to be treated like princesses! They enjoy being in the spotlight and are always ready for some fun. But don't let that love of a good time fool you. These brides are also headed for success in whatever they do thanks to their creative spirit and daring.

E - Oval

Playful and feminine. An oval shape is for the woman who has a soft, feminine character, who likes a classic feeling, but one with a "twist"! These brides are women that work hard by day, but definitely like to let their hair down at night. And with sparkle comparable to a round diamond but a shape that gives more bang for the buck because looks larger than other shapes having the same weight, this stone helps the brides dazzle all day.

F - Heart

Whimsical and passionate. A heart shape is for a bride that has a whimsical view of life, says Matlins. "The heart is the ultimate symbol of love and passion for these women, but they don't take themselves too seriously. They want to get a lot of pleasure and fun out of life."

G - Color

Confident and bold. A colored stone is for women who are extremely confident and not afraid to deviate from the norm. "This is perfect for the bride that wants to create a colorful life, in every way," explains Matlins. "They relate to particular colors in symbolic ways, and prefer rings that are unusual and distinctive."
