Whoopi Goldberg is making headlines after admitting that her favorite part of co-hosting The View is the paycheck, while suggesting that the amount she earns would leave most people stunned.

During a recent appearance on Keke Palmer’s Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast, the longtime The View co-host joked that fans would be “shocked” if they knew how much she makes on the daytime talk show. The lighthearted conversation quickly sparked conversation online, especially as it comes amid reports that The View has implemented budget cuts behind the scenes, including salary reductions that have reportedly left cast members frustrated. Read more about the situation below.

Whoopi Goldberg Says Her The View Paycheck Would ‘Shock’ Fans On Keke Palmer’s Podcast

On Tuesday, August 4th, the Sister Act icon appeared on the Nickelodeon alum’s new viral podcastBaby This Is Keke Palmer, where they talked about a variety of topics having to do with her long and successful career. At one point, they began talking about her journey to starring on The View, when they unexpectedly began to talk about salaries.

The host asked Whoopi what her favorite part of working on The View is, and she didn’t hold back with her answer.

“The check,” she joked. “Trust me. You can’t [imagine it]. You would be shocked. As soon as they showed you that check, you’d be like, ‘What the!?'”

Goldberg went on to explain that while she’s grateful for the salary, she also appreciates the stability the daytime talk show has provided throughout her career. She recalled joining the show in 2007, adding that having a steady job in an unpredictable industry is something she doesn’t take for granted. However, her comments came out at an interesting time, as just last week, new reports went viral after insiders claimed the show has been tightening its budget, with salary reductions, smaller wardrobe funds, and other cost-cutting measures that have allegedly left some of the women co-hosts “mad.”

Social Media Users React To Whoopi's 'Shocking' Salary Comments

Though it was fairly common knowledge that, being such a famous star and sitting on the show for nearly two decades, the comedian's salary is high, however, hearing her boast about how "shockingly" high it is on the podcast rubbed some users the wrong way, especially due to the bombshell reports that her co-hosts feel as though they're getting played by their network.

On social media, users like Instagram weighed in on the situation, feeling that the comments had a tone deaf vibe to them, and more.

"I'm sure it's fine," commented a user. "Love Whoopie, but all of us would like to sit and get paid that much to talk."

"However much it is, it's too much!" wrote another. "The show should be canceled!"

"[She's] still more than I am making to work at a school and keep my opinions to myself," joked a user.

"Whatever it is, I'm sure it's too much," commented a user, with another adding, "Whoopi should pay them," referring to her castmates who've potentially taken big paycuts.

"It's time to renegotiate," suggested another. "This is why Eve left."
