From a fashion point of view, last night's Emmys offered a refreshing return to old Hollywood glamour, with designers pulling out master techniques that would have made Edith Head proud. It was hard to narrow the trends down to three major headlines, but here we go:
1930’s – 1940’s Glamour: Gorgeous crystals and classic body-conscious construction made their way back onto the bodies on the red carpet. Some highlights of the homage to this era were Felicity Huffman and Olivia Wilde, both in Reem Acra.
One-shoulder gowns: The ladies of television shrugged off the red carpet stress and displayed beautifully architected off-the-shoulder necklines that simply shone. Take a note for your own wardrobe from Vanessa Williams in Kevan Hall and Christina Applegate in Reem Acra.
Lace: Sandra Oh in Oscar de la Renta must be noted because not only did she look stunning, but she’s completely on trend, with lace making a huge comeback in women's fashions for autumn/winter.
As far as accessories go, statement-making diamonds made their presence known with the ladies sporting cocktail rings and large jeweled bracelets.
How can you replicate for your own wardrobes? Some great pieces to gather for the upcoming holiday season are this JS Boutique Embellished Jersey Knit Gown ($188), the Mary L Couture One Shoulder Gown ($288) and this JS Collections Bead Lace Chiffon Gown ($198).
As for accessories, snag a Pave Flower Ring ($180) and Crystal Stone Cuff ($450), both by legendary costume designer Kenneth Jay Lane.
Stay tuned for more red carpet coverage, and see what was going on in the makeup department last night.
