Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is turning heads not just with her latest political statements, but with some of her latest Instagram photos as well.

The athlete recently shared some new pictures of herself on Instagram wearing a rather sultry outfit that included some spicy lace-up shorts that are drawing a lot of attention from fans. The photos didn’t come long after she stirred up an online debate after making controversial statements about her belief in transgender athletes, as well as some of her other more right-wing political beliefs, leading to her being labeled as one of America’s new “MAGA Barbies.” Read more about her buzzing Instagram post and controversial comments below.

Sophie Cunningham Poses In Black Lace-Up Shorts In New Instagram Photos

Sophie Cunningham has become one of the WNBA’s most talked-about players in recent weeks, not only for her performances on the court but also for her more conservative, right-wing comments that ignited debate online.

When she’s not on the court performing as a guard or posting about political issues she’s passionate about, the blonde can be seen posing for glamorous photos she tends to share on her Instagram account. On Thursday, July 23rd, she posted a series of pregame photos in an outfit that was extra sultry, potentially bringing on a new trend for summer shorts.

In her photos, which she captioned, “I said what I said,” along with a saluting emoji, she posed in some black, lace-up micro shorts with a simple, oversized black, short-sleeved t-shirt. She accessorized with some black pointed heels and a beige bag, wearing her super long, blonde hair down and straightened.

Though it’s unclear whose shorts she’s wearing, brands like Steve Madden make them at affordable prices, like their High Rise Lace-up Cheeky Short, sold at Walmart for $18.

Sophie Begins Online Debate With Her Comments On Transgender Athletes

Although her Instagram posts and certain outfits she wears, like the one in her July 23rd post, often get a lot of positive attention from her fans, the 29-year-old basketball player is not everyone's cup of tea, as she's been becoming a lot more outspoken about her political views.

She recently made headlines after weighing in on transgender athletes competing in women's sports during an interview, saying she believes female athletes "shouldn't have to compete against biological men." At the same time, she claimed that she does not consider herself "anti-trans" and described herself as politically "in the middle." Her remarks quickly spread across social media and prompted strong reactions from both supporters and critics. However, she has been seen reposting videos on platforms like TikTok from creators who post conservative content, more recently posting one about immigration with MAGA hashtags and more.

The conversation ended up sparking an online debate, as some more right-leaning sports fans praised her words and those on the other side strongly opposed them. The interview has led to some media outlets and social media users referring to her as a "MAGA Barbie," a nickname that's been given to other figures in pop culture like Sydney Sweeney.
