This Fashion Week, we were treated to a little slice of heaven called the Total Beauty suite, where I had a chance to meet and interview celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson. Ted has worked on Angelina Jolie, Renee Zellweger, Debra Messing, Gabrielle Union, Anne Hathaway and Demi Moore, not to mention socialites, designers, and countless editors. At $950 a haircut, when someone like this will sit down with you for an interview, you grab a seat and take notes.
Ted’s mantra is “Beauty is Individual” and believes that it’s not your ethnicity but your hair texture that drives what products you should be using. He’s spent most of his career creating universal hair products that work on everyone by combining cutting-edge technology and high quality ingredients. His message to you, Shefinds readers: the most common mistake women make is misdiagnosing whether your hair needs protein or moisture. So, take this advice from the expert: if your hair is breaking, it needs protein. If it’s dehydrated (raised ends, frizzy, dull color), it needs moisture.
For your daily styling needs, he recommends his Hair Treatment Hair Sheets ($35 for 5) for those of you who have breakage. This sheet is doused in proteins and vitamins and will literally bond to damaged and weakened hair, transforming the texture and nourishing brittle hair. For those who need moisture, add his Daily Cleanse Shampoo ($24) and Daily Nourish Conditioner ($24) to your routines, which not only strengthens hair but contains Ted’s patented Wild Orchid complex which prevents moisture from escaping from your hair.
After my interview, Ted’s team went to work on ShefindsBecky and me, giving us little mini-makeovers with his genius products, the results of which you can see at the top in our picture with Ted. We looked so hot we’ve made appointments with DJ, his first assistant, and hopefully our new BFF.
