The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

Following the theme of “New Year, New Me,” the beginning of the year is one of the best times to switch up your hairstyle. The first month of the new year isn’t even over yet and we have seen a number of amazing new hair color trends including Mulled Wine hair, Marshmallow hair, and Gingerbread Spiced Latte hair. But, if you’re looking for a something a little bolder, we’ve got just the thing! It’s not named after a food, but we think Ultra Violet hair is going to be a hit this year!

Ultra Violet hair is bold, bright and will definitely help you make a statement this year! This hair trend is quite different than lavender-colored hair that was trendy in 2017 as part of “rainbow” or “unicorn” hair. Ultra Violet is a deeper, darker, richer purple hue characterized by highlights of blues and reds.

Had enough of millennial pink? Good, because Ultra Violet looks like it’s here to stay–especially since Pantone has announced the hue the color of the year. “A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future,” The Pantone Institute stated. “Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.” Talk about some amazing new year’s goals!

“Ultra Violet offers hairdressers endless inspiration and there is no doubt that this mystical shade of purple is a color that we can embrace and interpret for the high street,” says Andrew Smith, Creative Team member at milk_shake. “The dramatically provocative and thoughtful shade that is a far cry from the outburst of 2017’s greenery, will encourage us as colorists, to push our creative boundaries to create consumer driven and incredibly flattering hair colors and tones.”

Even celebrities have been rocking Ultra Violet hair. Music artist Justine Skye has made Ultra Violet her signature hair color for quite some time now and even has titled her most recent album “ULTRAVIOLET.” “My hair color is super important to my look because it helps me define who I am,” she said in a statement. “It’s a characteristic of mine that makes me feel comfortable and different from the rest,” the Justine Skye said after becoming a brand ambassador for Dark and Lovely® Go Intense! Ultra Vibrant Permanent Hair Color. And, let’s not forget iconic artists like David Bowie, Prince, and Jimi Hendrix all dubbed Ultra Violet purple as their signature colors. In other words, you can’t go wrong with Ultra Violet hair this year!
