Looking for ways to make your iPhone battery last longer — and to ensure you still have storage space on your device when you need it? You’re not alone. One of the most common complaints iPhone users have is that their battery seems to get depleted within hours (something that can also be affected by the types of resource-heavy apps you use) and that a pesky “Storage Full” warning pops up at the most inconvenient times.

Getting ahead of these problems by adjusting a few settings is a key way to make your iPhone user experience better. Johan Alexander, CEO of APKCima, recommends changing these four settings if you want a longer battery and more storage space.

Background App Refresh

iPhone allows its apps to refresh their content in the background — something that can consume storage and drain battery power, Alexander warns. “Users must disable these settings which ultimately stop irrelevant apps from continuously running in the background, conserving resources and extending battery life,” he says.

Turn it off by heading to Settings > General > Background App Refresh — then select Off.

Push Email

Another app that consumes your previous space and exhausts your important battery life by enabling the Push Email feature,” Alexander says. “This feature automatically works when iPhone is connected to Wifi or mobile data — then push email constantly checks for new emails, which can drain battery power and occupy storage with email data.”

Alexander suggests overcoming this issue by switching to manual fetch or a less frequent fetch interval that reduces the frequency of email updates and improves both battery life and storage space.

Location Services

Apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, and Emails ask if you want to turn on Location Services to enhance your user experience with them, but this is one draining setting. “These apps continuously use location services to provide location-based features, but this constant tracking consumes both battery power and storage,” Alexander says. “Reviewing the apps with access to location services and disabling unnecessary apps helps conserve both resources. In addition to this, iPhone users also delete unnecessary or scrap apps to avoid storage and battery life problems.”

Photo and Video Storage Options

Snapping high-resolution photos and video consume your phone’s battery and storage space very fast, Alexander stresses.
“Users of iPhones may avoid this situation by changing the settings to optimize storage, allowing your device to store compressed versions of media, reducing their impact on storage while preserving satisfactory quality.”

To optimize iPhone photo storage, go to Settings > Photos > toggle on Optimize iPhone Storage.

These four little-known settings are simple to change and can make a huge difference in your battery power and storage capabilities.
