1. Don’t Drain Your Battery To Zero

“For starters, I would suggest that you avoid draining your phone battery all the way to zero to avoid putting stress on it,” says Tim McGuire, CEO of Mobile Klinik. “Before, when nickel-cadmium batteries were used, it was okay to drain the battery to zero and then charge it all the way to full capacity. However, now mobile companies have invested in lithium-ion batteries. These batteries charge more efficiently above 20 percent and below 80 percent. Charging your device between these levels will help increase the lifespan of your battery.”

2. Don’t Use Your Phone While Charging It

“To improve your battery life while charging your device, avoid constantly using it at that particular time,” McGuire says. “It's important to note that when using your device, the display consumes most of the battery, hence increasing the temperature due to the level of stress its undergoing.”

3. Turn Off 4G

“Turn off 4G (or 3G/5G),” advises Caroling Lee of CocoSign.com. “The phone requires an unbelievable amount of charge for uploading and downloading data. You’d be surprised how much charge you save just by turning off phone data when you don’t use it. Open Settings > Tap Cellular > Off (for the Data Setting). Not using phone data will give you a few extra hours, at the very least.”

4. Use Low Power Mode

“Low power mode disables some visual effects and also minimizes or turns off several non-necessary smartphone functions that run in the background – like background refresh,” Lee says. “This reduces the burden on the battery. You’ll have enough charge for days. I suggest turning on Low Power Mode all the time to keep your battery in top shape long-term.”

5. Charge Your Phone On Low Power Mode

Not only should you utilize Low Power Mode when you’re just kicking around all day, but experts say it’s a great idea to charge your phone while it’s set to Low Power Mode.

“You can do this by toggling on the battery logo in the control center,” says George Mouratidis at SIM Tourist. “It enables the iPhone to use 30% less battery making your battery run for a longer time. It dims your screen, which eats up most of your battery life. It can also make the phone stop working for other apps and make your phone focus on the charging alone to gain more high-quality charging.”
