6 Worst iPhone Mistakes That Are Draining Your Battery

It’s easy to blame Apple when your iPhone’s battery loses its ability to hold a charge for very long. You may even become suspicious of the brand and assume it’s something they’re purposely doing to ensure you keep updating your device as regularly as possible and spending tons of money. But here’s the deal: you could be contributing greatly to your own iPhone battery problems. In fact, your daily phone habits and things you’re neglecting to do can play a major role in the way its battery functions. Before you get angry, consider these six worst iPhone mistakes that Shahnawaz Sadique, the tech expert and founder of TheViralPink.Com, says are draining your battery.

Keeping Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on when not in use

Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth consume a significant amount of battery power, even when not actively being used, Sadique warns. If you aren’t turning off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when they’re not in use to conserve battery life, you are actively contributing to your battery’s demise. Remember to always turn these features off unless you’re using them.

Leaving apps running in the background

“Many apps continue to run in the background, even when you’re not actively using them,” Sadique says. “This can lead to a drain on your battery life. To solve this issue, simply swipe up from the bottom of your screen to open the app switcher and swipe up on the app to close it.”

Using location services excessively

Location services can also consume a significant amount of battery power, especially if they’re running in the background, Sadique says. “To solve this issue, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and either turn off location services altogether or only enable it for specific apps that require it,” he adds.

Using a non-Apple charger

While it may be tempting to use a cheaper, non-Apple charger, doing so can lead to a drain on your battery life, according to Sadique. “Apple’s chargers are designed to work specifically with their devices, so it’s best to stick with an official charger,” he says. And if you aren’t purchasing straight from Apple, be sure the charge that you choose is an Apple-certified pick.

Using a power-hungry wallpaper

Wallpapers are fun and can help make your phone feel more personalized. But some live wallpapers or dynamic backgrounds can consume more battery power than others, Sadique says. To solve this issue, he recommends choosing a static wallpaper or one that’s less power-hungry.

Not updating to the latest iOS version

Don’t ignore update alerts or put them off for another day. “Apple releases updates to their iOS software to improve performance and battery life,” Sadique says. “Not updating to the latest version could mean missing out on these benefits, so it’s important to keep your iPhone up to date.”

Start putting these six tips into effect today to possibly see instant major improvements in your phone’s battery performance.
