If you love nearly everything about being an iPhone owner, but could really do without the constant charging that your phone seems to need, there’s a hack for you. In fact, there are seven hacks for you — and all of them reflect mistakes you could be making right this very minute without knowing it — that could be having a negative effect on your phone’s battery.
Your iPhone is built to last several hours without requiring a charge. And the fact is you don’t have to keep it charged to 85 or 90 percent to ensure that it operates well — the sweet charging spot is somewhere between 30 and 80 percent. With that said, if you find yourself reaching for a charger a few times a day, you may have certain settings set or habits you’re used to that are killing your battery power. These are the best hacks to make your iPhone battery last longer than ever, according to tech experts.
Enable low power mode
Low Power Mode reduces power consumption by disabling certain features, such as automatic downloads and visual effects, says Goran Luledzija, the CEO of Localizely. To turn on low power mode, go to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode.
Reduce screen brightness
You may not notice much of a difference if you lower your screen’s brightness by a large percentage, but you will notice that your phone requires fewer charging sessions. “Brightness is one of the most power-hungry settings on your iPhone,” Luledzija says. “To reduce it, go to Settings > Display & Brightness and adjust the slider to your desired level.”
Turn off location services
Location services use a lot of battery, especially if they’re constantly tracking your location, according to Luledzija. To turn them off, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and toggle off the apps that you don’t need.
Use Wi-Fi instead of cellular data
“Cellular data is also a power-hungry feature,” Luledzija says. “If you’re near a Wi-Fi network, connect to it to save battery.”
Close unnecessary apps
Some apps continue to run in the background and consume battery even when you’re not using them. To close them, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access the app switcher and swipe the app up to close it, according to Luledzija.
Use airplane mode in low-signal areas
Airplane mode isn’t just for airplanes — and it can save you serious battery power. “When your iPhone is searching for a signal, it uses a lot of battery,” Luledzija says. “If you’re in a low-signal area, turn on airplane mode to conserve battery.”
Keep your iPhone cool
The temperature in which you store your phone matters a great deal, as its battery is very sensitive to extreme heat and cold and its longevity can suffer because of it. “High temperatures can reduce your iPhone’s battery life,” Luledzija says. “Avoid exposing your phone to direct sunlight or leaving it in a hot car.”
Try these hacks to help boost your battery power and keep you from scrambling for a charger at the most inconvenient times.
