All browsers are not created equal. Some actually have features that are friendlier to your phone and its battery, while others can pose a threat to both your battery and even your data. If you aren’t sure which browser you should be using and which is better left untouched, we spoke with Tech Expert Daniela Sawyer, Founder and Business Development Strategist of FindPeopleFast.net, about the one browser you need to stop using on your iPhone in 2021. It’s one you may not have even heard yet, which means you may be tempted to try it out. But before you do, this is why you should practice caution.

Yandex

The Yandex browser was ranked as one of the least secure browsers by Trinity College Dublin in an early 2020 study, Sawyer says. The reason for this apprehension is a major cause for concern. “We discovered a data-sharing issue, specifically that it sends persistent identifiers that we can use to link requests to back-end servers,” Sawyer says. “Additionally, browsing data via the search autocomplete function has been discovered to transmit a hashed hardware identifier to back-end servers. What is the most frightening aspect? The procedure for opting out is unknown.”

So, if you now know to stay away from Yandex, which browser should you opt for instead? That depends on your needs, and every tech expert will have a different browser they prefer. But the one that Sawyer says she relies on is Safari.

“Safari is the best browser for iPhones, and it is the default browser for all Apple devices,” Sawyer says. “Safari is fast to load and battery-friendly. It can handle large tab counts and syncs effectively with other Apple devices. Safari blocks trackers using ITP. It allows users to view a Privacy Report to see which sites are trying the most to track. The built-in Private browsing tab provides even more privacy.”

According to Sawyer, Safari also allows creating and saving passwords using iCloud Keychain and making safe transactions with Apple Pay. “Safari syncs tabs, bookmarks, passwords, and browser history across all Apple devices,” Sawyer says. “It is simple to operate with ultra-fast page-loading speed, including all of the necessary security features. It also removes accumulated trash and other unwanted items.”

One browser may be incredibly different from another, so it’s worth your time to do your homework, stay away from browsers that can compromise your data and battery, and choose one that works for your needs.
