iPhone Users Beware: These Settings Could Shorten Your Battery Life, According To Experts

Your iPhone battery is a precious thing — maintaining it for as long as possible is one of the keys to keeping your phone around and not dropping more money on newer devices. In addition to ensuring your phone doesn’t clock in hours in extreme temperatures, which is death to a phone battery, and charging it with accessories that are designed for your device, another way you can keep on top of your battery is by being mindful of its settings.

Some settings are going to affect your battery more than others — plain and simple. iPhone users should beware of these six settings that can shorten your battery life.

Brightness

The brighter your phone screen, the more battery resources it is taking up. Adjust your brightness settings as low as you can possibly handle to conserve battery power.

Push Mail

Push mail tells your email to alert you whenever you have new messages arrive in your inbox. If you are waiting for a very important message, this is understandable. All other times: it’s taking up battery power. Consider fetching email manually to avoid this battery drainer.

Location Services

Apps that use location services, such as those with GPS, are draining on your battery. Manage this setting by only setting it for apps that need it WHEN they need it — in other words, when you’re using the app, not at all times.

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi

Similar to Location Services, you don’t need Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on at all times. When these settings are turned on and you’re out and about and not using them, your phone is still hard at work trying to find a connection. Turn them off when they aren’t in use.

Dynamic Backgrounds

Animated or dynamic backgrounds look great on your phone, but they use a great deal of battery power. Choose a static wallpaper instead to conserve battery.

Screen Timeout

If your screen is set to stay on — brightness blazing and all — for minutes at a time, your phone battery could be suffering. Set a longer screen timeout if you can to conserve battery power.
