Kacey Musgraves Calls Christopher Columbus A 'Loser'

On Sunday, October 11, just a day before Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Musgraves performed at the American Airlines Center in Dallas as part of her middle of Nowhere tour. While speaking to the audience, the Grammy-winner recognized it was the day before the holiday and went on a short rant about it. "Yeah, no yeah yeah, actually, obviously f*** Columbus," she said. "Literally the lamest person to ever exist. Like, for real. What a loser. You’re a loser, Christopher Columbia, we hate you!"

This is not the first time Musgraves has used her platform to express her political views. The country singer has previously spoken out on issues including LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive freedom, often challenging the more conservative expectations traditionally associated with country music. Throughout her career, Musgraves has built a reputation for being outspoken about her personal beliefs, incorporating themes of acceptance, individuality, and social change into both her music and public appearances.

Social Media Reactions

Across social media platforms, users were divided in their reactions to the singer’s political interjection. While some cheered her on for defending indigenous people, others didn’t think her concert was the right place for the messaging. "This is so disappointing!" one user wrote on Instagram. "People don’t pay to hear your opinion, they want to hear your music."

"People don’t pay hundreds of dollars to hear your politics,” agreed another user.

'She lost a fan because she went political,” said another. “I am done with #kaceymusgraves!"

On the other side, many fans championed Musgraves. "My first ever experience with anything @spaceykacey and now I’m a fan for life," one user wrote. "Loved her energy!"

"Saying this in Dallas was top notch!" one user wrote.

"Taking over for Dolly,” one user wrote. "She continues to fight the good fight."

"Nice! I’m so happy I’m seeing her next week," said another user.

"Love to see her using her platform for good!" a final user wrote.
