Want your iPhone battery to stand the test of time? Who doesn’t? As wonderfully convenient as it is to own and use an iPhone, let’s face it: charging it four times a day takes away from its charm. Luckily, there are ways to address this and ensure that you aren’t replacing your phone’s battery (or your phone) every year. Tech experts say these are the most important rules to follow if you want a long-lasting iPhone battery. Best of all: it’ll take just minutes to adjust these settings and it will make a world of difference in how your device operates.

Screen Brightness

Your first step, according to Tech Expert Jared Floyd, founder at Ajax Creative, is to adjust your screen brightness. “Many people set their display to the highest brightness setting, but this can drain your battery faster,” Floyd said. “Keeping your display brightness at a lower level can help you extend your battery life.”

Background App Refresh

Second step: disable background app refresh. “This setting allows apps to update content and data even when you’re not actively using them,” Floyd said. “By turning off this setting, you can save battery power.”

Location Services

“Turn off location services when you’re not using them,” Floyd said. “Location services allow your device to access your location for certain apps, but this can be a major drain on battery life if you don’t need it.” Not to mention: location sharing can put your privacy at risk.

Push Notifications

Disabling push notification is also a good idea for a longer-lasting battery. Push notifications can be very helpful, Floyd said, but they can also drain battery power. Unless you absolutely need push notifications for a specific app, you should turn them off.

Low-Power Mode

Finally, use low-power mode when your battery is low. “Low-power mode is a great way to save battery power when your battery is running low,” Floyd said. “It reduces background tasks, dims your display, and turns off features such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.”

Keep your phone’s battery running efficiently and mitigate the need to charge your device so often by making these simple switches and adjustments.
