Wi-Fi Finder
If you want to keep your personal data safe, Keely recommends never downloading ‘Wi-Fi Finder’. “This app is dangerous because it can easily be used to hack into your device,” Kelly says. “It can also give away your personal information to third-party companies.”
SuperVPN
Another app to keep on your radar is SuperVPN, which is one of the most popular VPN apps on Android, with over 100 million downloads, according to Matt Weidle, business development manager of Buyer’s Guide. “However, early this year, cybersecurity experts reported that the app contains serious flaws that might allow hackers to carry out MitM (Man-in-the-Middle) attacks, potentially obtaining sensitive information such as credit card numbers, photographs, and private chats,” Weidle says. “According to reports, hackers can use the flaws to hijack a user’s connection to malicious websites, putting the user’s privacy and security at risk.”
So, how can you protect yourself?
“The best way is to be aware of which apps are risky and to be careful about what you share online,” Kelly says. “You should also make sure that your device is password protected and that you have a good security app installed.”
