Knowing which iPhone settings you can turn off or limit can help prolong the life of your battery. It’s tempting to leave everything as is, but certain settings are not improving your daily life in any way and could actually be draining your battery power instead. Tech Expert Mark Coster, owner of Australian web design agency Web Design for Businesses, spoke with SHEFinds.com about four settings every Apple expert has turned off to double your battery life.

Bluetooth

In a nutshell, Bluetooth is a battery drainer.

“Don’t keep your Bluetooth on at all times,” Coster says. “Wireless earbuds are an ingenious invention, but you should still make it a habit to disable your Bluetooth when you’re done listening to music or podcasts.”

Automatic Updates

It’s always a good idea to keep your apps current. App updates help fix various bugs and problems with your favorite apps, but when you choose to update them is an important factor.

“Refrain from updating your apps unless the phone is charging,” Coster says. “Updates tend to gobble up your phone’s resources. While you should never wait too long before updating an app to its latest version, your battery wants to live through the day. So, if you haven’t done it already, disable automatic updates.”

Wi-Fi

Turn off Wi-Fi? Sounds like an extreme idea, but there are times when your phone simply doesn’t need it.

“Wi-Fi is a friend and a bitter enemy,” Coster says. “While it typically drains less juice than your mobile data, it’s going to act like an insatiable monster as it’s searching for any and all available networks to hook up with. Turn it off while out and about.”

Location Services

In addition to being potentially creepy and allowing apps to track your whereabouts and provide the info to their advertisers, Location Services is bad news for your battery.

“Location is a no-no,” Coster says. “And not just for surveillance reasons! When your Location Services are on, the phone is toiling non-stop, trying to improve your user experience based on where you happen to be at the moment. The flip side - there’s nothing so useless as a dead phone.”
