Checking in at a fashion show is a nerve-wracking experience for perpetually under-dressed me. Approaching the table with my “plus 1†I had the distinct feeling that I was about to be thoroughly embarrassed. I went with my most “I deserve to be here†approach to which the girl behind the table replied very seriously, “Are you sure you RSVP’d?†Now, sweating, “Marie, I spoke with Marie, yes I’m sure, and I have a plus one.†Smooth. The uber cool girl behind the table, smiles, hands me my tickets,and even though they didn’t have my plus 1 marked down, she made it work. When I asked her if she played that cruel trick on everyone, she told me it was reserved only for those who looked especially gullible. That would be me.
Once inside, I made a beeline for the 8 year old girls chasing down the Project Runway folks for autographs. No one turns away sweet little girls, or questions the slightly creepy older girl lurking behind them with a camera. I even got Season 2 winner Chloe Dao to pose with her bag I wrote about a while back. Tim Gunn is doll, so serene and just so Tim Gunn.
Daniel Franco’s collection was packed with feminine, body conscious dresses. (There was one nipple bearing top that could have used some double sided tape.) One of the sponsors of the show was Nikon camera. The models strutted down the runway and took pictures of the photogs taking pictures. Who says fashion isn’t deep?
