I’ve always loved dresses. It’s so easy to put an outfit together when you’re only putting on one article of clothing!
And when I do wear tanks or tees, I generally wear the same three pairs of shorts on a loop all summer. It’s not intentional, but tops are just easier to get excited about—so I default to grabbing whatever bottoms are at the top of the laundry pile. But now that summer’s winding down, I’m realizing I never actually got around to buying many new bottoms and that kinda feels like a missed opportunity.
So consider this my last-minute course correction. There’s still time to squeeze a little more wear out of summer, and a few new bottoms can help make my existing tops (and yours) feel brand new again.
Keep scrolling for the bottoms I’m eyeing right now.
Wit & Wisdom Skyrise Side Seam Straight Leg Pants ($35.20 – $61.60)
OK sure, you may think you don’t need pants in the summer. But what about the days you haven’t shaved your legs, or the days you’re tired of wearing dresses to the office?
These pants check the boxes for both those occasions. The tonal side seams add a little sporty polish, and the elastic waist makes them comfy and stylish. As a bonus, they’re a great transition piece for September, once the temperatures start to dip.
MELLODAY Floral Print Ankle Pants ($22.40 – $56)
Floral print pants are basically a statement piece on their own, which means that for once, your bottoms get to be the star of the outfit instead of your top. This vivacious print does all the work here, so you can keep everything else simple. Pair them with a plain white tee or a fitted tank, and let the pants take center stage!
Also, between the print and the airy, ankle-grazing fit, these feel genuinely summery. I like that they help you hang onto that warm-weather feeling for just a little while longer.
Open Edit Linen Blend Column Maxi Skirt ($39.75 – $59.62)
A maxi skirt is the ultimate summer-to-fall transition piece, and honestly, it’s just more interesting than reaching for the same pair of shorts or pants again.
This one keeps things breezy with a lightweight linen blend, and of course, I love how the side slit adds just a little sex appeal—and makes it easier to move around in. During the last few days of summer, it works great with sandals and a tank, but you can also bring it into fall with boots and a sweater.
Halogen® Belted Pleated Longer Length Shorts ($35.60 – $44.50)
If you’re ready to graduate from your usual summer shorts, this longer-length pair feels like a much more polished way to do it. They’re high-waisted and wide through the leg, with inverted pleats and a matching belt that give them a tailored look. Because your shorts don’t have to be tiny to be cute!
Dress this pair up with a blouse and loafers or stay casual with a tank top and sandals. You’ll look fab either way.
Brooklyn Industries Cotton Sweat Shorts ($44.40)
Now you can wear sweat (shorts) outside the house and look good doing it! This pair has a high-rise fit and soft 100% cotton fabric that makes them just as comfy as your favorite sweats, but the streamlined shape feels just a bit more put together.
Wear these with a tank and sneakers for running errands, grabbing coffee, or basically any summer day when jeans sound absolutely ridiculous. Everyone will be wondering how you managed to look this chic while being this comfy.
Caslon® French Terry Drawstring Shorts ($31.99)
I saw these shorts and immediately thought of my sister, whose style is basically “beach” or “just got back from the beach.” With the soft, cotton-blend French terry, these shorts nail the laid-back beachy feel, and the drawstring waist also keeps them super comfy.
They’ll look great with a simple tank or oversized button down and sandals for an easy summer look that requires literally zero effort.
So much for your wardrobe needing more tops! These bottoms will give your favorite tanks and tees a few more chances to shine before summer officially calls it.
