Mayor Daley has hired attorney-turned-fashionista Melissa Turner as Chicagoâ€™s first Fashion Director, and not one but two fashion-focused weeks are in the works for Fall.
City-sponsored Fashion Focus Chicago, Sept. 20 â€“ Oct. 1, puts the â€œchicâ€ in Chicago by spotlighting local designers and swanky locales. Four runway shows, including Gen Artâ€™s Fresh Faces in Fashion (Sept. 25), will take place in Millennium Parkâ€™s Rooftop Terrace. The week culminates in Macyâ€™s Glamorama 2006: Glamosphere on Sept. 29. BeyoncÃ© takes the stage at the Chicago Theater as models sporting Marc Jacobs, Just Cavalli, and Badgley Mischka get fierce on the runway.
Chicago Fashion Week (Oct. 15-21) has a hip, more organic vibe. Highlights include the Donâ€™t Blink makeup artistsâ€™ competition, with awards granted in Creative, Outrageous, Conventional, and Before-and-After categories, and Self-Indulgence, a bazaar-like tribute to accessories, â€œbecause you can never have enough hats, gloves, shoes, watches, scarves, jewelsâ€¦â€
