That app you just downloaded can seem like a lot of fun at first — or it may be one of the more convenient and practical apps you’ve ever used. But, unbeknownst to you, it could also be the source of myriad privacy and security woes. Some apps are simply worse for your security than others, and knowing which apps are suspect amongst tech experts is a good way to avoid giving away data you never intended to part ways with. Tech Expert Venessa Ezekiel, the Lead Editor at Oofloo, says this is the one app she recommends all iPhone users delete immediately to boost your security and privacy.

Cam Scanner

On its surface, Cam Scanner seemed like an amazingly practical app — one that lets you scan documents and photos as JPEGs or PDF’s. But, similar to many other free apps, this one was found to have suspicious features that should make you think twice about downloading it or keeping it on your phone.

“Malicious malware was discovered in the Android version of the PDF maker app, according to cybersecurity specialists,” Ezekiel says. “A third-party advertising library was responsible for the faulty code. The program was modified to remove the offending SDK and then re-released on Google Play. Even so, you can decide to keep away because you don’t require it.”

Cam Scanner is just one app that should be on your radar if your goal is to boost your security. Ezekiel also recommends deleting another app that you probably don’t need.

Flashlight App

“Many app creators added glitzy new features to keep users engaged and track all that data,” Ezekiel says. “Take, for example, iTorch Flashlight for iPhone. Your location, personal identifiers, usage data, and diagnostic information are all tracked by the free app. That's a lot to forego only to be able to use a flashlight.”

Start by deleting Cam Scanner and Flashlight apps to help keep your data more private and boost your iPhone battery for a better performance.
